In Brazil, the official Portuguese Proficiency Certificate is the CELPE/Bras, issued by the Ministry of Education (MEC).

How to get it

To pass at the CELPE/Bras exam, developed by MEC and administered by institutions authorized by MEC.
The Exam – A written test that must be done in two hours and 30 minutes and an 20-minute oral evaluation. For further information, visit the website:

Agencies authorized by MEC to administer the CELPE/Bras Exam:
• Universidade Federal Fluminense
• Other Brazilian universities
• Institutions located abroad

Frequency of the CELPE/Bras Exam – twice a year usually in the months of April and October.
